K-Electric, has decided to cut off electricity to government departments of Karachi due to unpaid bills. K-Electric has announced that if the overdue amount of 1.7 billion rupees is not paid, electricity to 64 departments in Sindh will be disconnected. This stern measure follows repeated but ignored demands for payment.
A letter from K-Electric has been sent to both the Chief Secretary and Secretary Energy, stressing the urgency of the situation. Despite sending eight reminders, K-Electric claims the government has failed to settle the dues or pay recent bills as previously agreed. This has forced the company to take the drastic step of planning to disconnect the power supply.
The letter points out that back in 2019, the Sindh government committed to clearing all outstanding dues and ensuring timely payment of new bills. The responsibility for these payments was assigned to the Energy Department, but this promise has not been kept.
Now, K-Electric is moving forward with plans to cut off electricity to these provincial departments, urging the government to resolve the issue without delay and pay both old and new dues. Along with the letter, K-Electric has provided a detailed list of the 64 departments that face disconnection if the situation is not addressed promptly.
