Prince Rahim Aga Khan Awarded Nishan-e-Pakistan

President Asif Ali Zardari honored Prince Rahim Aga Khan with Pakistan’s highest civilian award, the Nishan-e-Pakistan. The ceremony took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad, the President’s official residence.

Prince Rahim, currently in Pakistan, is reviewing AKDN projects focusing on renewable energy, microfinance, and information technology. His visit also involves meetings with government officials and leaders of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and the Ismaili community.

The award citation lauds Prince Rahim’s pivotal roles within the AKDN, spanning over 25 years. It recognizes his dedication to enhancing the quality of life in resource-constrained areas of Asia and Africa. His leadership, notably as Chair of the Executive Committee of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development and Chair of the AKDN’s Environment and Climate Committee, has contributed significantly to initiatives addressing economic, health, educational, and cultural needs of marginalized communities.

Expressing gratitude upon receiving the award, Prince Rahim emphasized the collective efforts of the Aga Khan Development Network, its staff, and volunteers in improving the lives of Pakistan’s people. He thanked the President and Government of Pakistan for the prestigious recognition.

The Nishan-e-Pakistan has been previously bestowed upon His Highness the Aga Khan in 1983 for his extensive social and economic welfare work in Pakistan, the Muslim Ummah, and the developing world. Past recipients include global figures like Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth II.
