Sarim Burney Child Trafficking Case: Latest Updates

Sarim Burney, a renowned social worker, found himself amid a controversy. On his return from the United States, he was detained at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on June 5. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) accused him of involvement in a human trafficking case.

Burney’s legal representative dismissed these allegations as unfounded. He argued that the FIA had not conducted a thorough investigation before making such serious accusations. The lawyer emphasized that the child, who was allegedly sold for Rs3 million, was left at the hospital by the parents themselves.

The defense also highlighted that the process of adopting children is well-structured and regulated. They claimed that the FIA had not been able to substantiate their allegations. The court has now asked the FIA to respond to Burney’s bail plea.

In a separate development, the FIA filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Burney. He is accused of trafficking newborn babies to the US. The FIR specifically mentions a baby girl named Haya, who was allegedly bought from her parents for Rs1 million and sent to the US.

The FIA alleges that Burney trafficked 20 newborns to the US over the past year under the guise of adoption. They claim that 15 of these children were girls. However, these allegations are yet to be proven in court. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how Burney will navigate through this storm.
