In Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has officially announced that the new moon of Muharram, marking the beginning of the Islamic year, could not be sighted. Consequently, the holy day of Youm-e-Ashura 10 Muharram will be observed on July 29 (Saturday). This development has led to a three-day holiday on Ashura from 9 Muharram Friday, July 28, to 11 Muharram Sunday, July 30, providing an opportunity for the Pakistani population to observe and commemorate this significant religious occasion.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Moulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, held a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Quetta to make the official announcement. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz and other officials were also present during the meeting.
Taking into account the non-sighting of the Muharram moon in Pakistan, the government has decided to grant a three-day holiday, starting from Friday, July 28, until Sunday, July 30. This extended weekend will enable citizens to participate in religious rituals and events held in commemoration of Youm-e-Ashura, which is a significant day in the Islamic calendar.
