Mobile technology has come a long way, evolving from bulky mobile phones to the latest innovations in foldable displays and smart wearables.
Foldable screens, which can be used in smartphones, laptops, and tablets, appear to dominate the future. Envision a world where you can wear your smartphone on your wrist and use it like a full-fledged device.
Motorola, a subsidiary of Lenovo since 2014, is taking a significant step towards this future. At the 2023 Lenovo Tech World event, they unveiled an “adaptive display” smartphone prototype.
This device features a flexible 6.9-inch OLED screen with FHD+ resolution, going beyond mere folding capabilities.
It can curl, wrap, and even stand. When curled, the software adjusts the display to a compact 4.6-inch size, a remarkable improvement from Lenovo’s earlier CPlus model, which had thicker bezels.
The prototype offers some unique features. It can serve as a stand, capturing the user’s outfit and generating matching wallpaper using generative AI, giving it a smartwatch-like appearance.
The device can be adjusted for an ergonomic viewing experience, making it perfect for video calls and vertical browsing by bending the top half upward.
Motorola showcased various AI-powered concepts at the event. Users can snap or upload pictures of their clothing to create unique AI-generated wallpapers for their devices.
They are also developing MotoAI, a privacy-focused voice/text assistant for PCs and smartphones, utilizing a large language model for personalization.
Additionally, Motorola is working on enhancing document scanning with smartphones, reducing wrinkles and shadows to produce clearer images.
