In a significant move, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir, has taken proactive steps to enhance the protection of the endangered Indus Dolphin and safeguard the exotic bird species in the province.
A pivotal meeting was conducted by the wildlife department, with Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir at the helm. During this meeting, the participants emphasized the importance of taking measures to conserve the local wildlife.
It was highlighted that the hunting season in Sindh is set to commence on November 1 and will extend for a duration of three months. The province is home to a diverse array of 322 large game bird species. Additionally, the meeting provided crucial information, revealing that the current population of the Indus Dolphin stands at 1419.
In response to these findings, Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir announced a pivotal decision. Hunters wishing to participate in the upcoming season are now encouraged to submit their applications online for designated hunting areas. Importantly, it was noted that hunting will not be permissible in the following year, allowing for a one-year moratorium to help bolster the local wildlife populations.
Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir emphasized that this temporary ban is a crucial measure to aid the increase in the animal population within the region. Furthermore, he directed the caretaker Sindh Chief Minister to implement further measures to protect both the Indus Dolphin and exotic bird species.
