Sugarcane Price in Sindh Increased to Minimum of Rs. 425

Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister, Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar, fixed the minimum sugarcane price at Rs 425 per maund after discussions with the Agriculture department. The decision, aimed at supporting local farmers, was approved in a meeting attended by key officials.

The Agriculture department calculated the per-acre cost at Rs 244,984, with a yield of 650 maunds, making it Rs 377 per 40 kg. Adding a 12.7% profit brought the minimum price to Rs 425. Chief Secretary D FakhreAlam confirmed the decision and proposed Rs 434 with a 15% profit.

During the meeting, concerns were raised about underperforming wings in the Agriculture department. The Chief Minister directed an evaluation of each wing’s performance and suggested winding up those losing utility. Modernization of agriculture research, mechanized farming, and improved water management were emphasized.

The Chief Minister approved the Rs 425 minimum price and instructed the Chief Secretary to seek cabinet approval. Additionally, a review of the Agriculture department’s organization was ordered to streamline operations and enhance support for the agriculture sector.
