Punjab Schools to Close on Saturdays to Combat Smog

In response to the alarming rise in smog levels, the Punjab government has implemented a proactive measure to protect the health of students and citizens alike. A recent notification has issued, mandating the closure of both public and private schools across 10 districts in the region every Saturday.

This move is part of a comprehensive strategy to address the hazardous effects of smog, with a particular focus on safeguarding the well-being of the younger population. The government has also extended the closure to markets, shops, and cinemas in these districts, emphasizing the need for a collective effort in tackling the environmental challenge.

The affected districts include Nankana, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin. Educational institutions in these areas will remain closed on Saturdays until further notice, and commercial establishments required to shut down until 3 p.m. on the same day.

This decision underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing public health and safety amid rising environmental concerns. By taking swift and decisive action, authorities aim to mitigate the impact of smog and create awareness about the importance of environmental responsibility.

As the region grapples with the challenges posed by smog, the government encourages citizens to stay informed and adhere to the guidelines provided. This collaborative effort between the government and the public reflects a shared responsibility to address environmental issues and build a healthier, more sustainable future for Punjab.
