Punjab University to Establish New Sub-Campus in Daska: Interim Cabinet Approval

In a significant development, the interim cabinet of Punjab has given the green light for the establishment of a new sub-campus for Punjab University in Daska. This decision transpired during the 32nd cabinet meeting, presided over by interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Gujranwala.

The expansion of Punjab University’s footprint to Daska reflects a commitment to bolstering educational infrastructure in the region. This move is anticipated to provide increased access to quality higher education for students in and around Daska.

In addition to the university sub-campus approval, the cabinet has also sanctioned the construction of a vegetable market and Guwala Colony in Gujranwala. Furthermore, plans include the addition of 24 new classrooms for DPS Gujranwala, emphasizing the government’s focus on enhancing both educational and civic facilities in the area.

The meeting addressed various public welfare initiatives, with Commissioner Naveed Haider Shirazi briefing the cabinet on ongoing projects. Notable decisions encompass the establishment of two model graveyards in the Gujranwala area and setting the minimum support price for wheat at Rs4,000 per maund, a step aimed at supporting local farmers.

The cabinet also touched upon healthcare developments, including the construction of a new cardiac hospital in Lahore and the transformation of Jinnah Hospital’s Emergency and Trauma Centre into the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology. Financial allocations were made to operationalize a seven-year-old CT scan machine at Mayo Hospital.

Expressing concern over the recovery efforts of the irrigation department, the cabinet stressed the importance of effective management and planning to enhance recovery. This aligns with the government’s commitment to addressing critical issues and ensuring holistic development in the region.

Overall, these decisions underscore the government’s multifaceted approach, addressing education, healthcare, agriculture, and civic infrastructure, with the establishment of Punjab University’s new sub-campus being a focal point in promoting higher education accessibility in Daska.
