Severe Smog in Lahore Leads to Surge in Flu and Throat Infections

The city of Lahore is grappling with a health crisis as severe smog continues to engulf the region, resulting in a significant uptick in flu and throat infections among residents.

According to reports from medical authorities, the spike in air pollution levels, particularly particulate matter, has intensified respiratory issues. The air quality index on the global platform ranks Lahore as the most polluted city in the world, with a recorded particulate matter level of 352 per cubic meter.

As a consequence of the worsening smog, citizens are experiencing a surge in flu, cold, fever, and throat infections. Medical experts are urging residents to take precautionary measures, emphasizing the use of masks when venturing outdoors to mitigate the risk of respiratory ailments.

In response to the escalating situation, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, announced the closure of educational institutions for today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday). Additionally, markets will remain open from 3 pm on both days, with a complete shutdown scheduled for Sunday.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation on the national highway, where reduced visibility due to smog is a growing concern. In particular, Chicha Watni city and its surrounding areas have witnessed an alarming increase in smog levels.

The severe environmental conditions underscore the urgent need for public awareness and collaborative efforts to address the root causes of air pollution, ensuring the well-being of Lahore’s residents.
