Nankana Sahib is abuzz with joy as the three-day festivities commemorating the 554th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, reach their culmination today.

The Nagar Kirtan procession starts at Gurdwara Janam Asthan and is a spectacular highlight. Pilgrims from around the world, including India, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, and local Sikh and Hindu communities, gather for this joyous occasion. Around 3,000 Indian Sikhs crossed borders to join the religious extravaganza.

Commencing on November 25 with the sacred Akhand Path ritual, the commemorative events set a spiritual tone for the celebrations. Sikh yatrees express gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality of Pakistan. They affirm their commitment to establishing this pilgrimage as an annual tradition.

In a gesture of solidarity, Monday has been declared a public holiday across Nankana Sahib district. The day will culminate with a mesmerizing fireworks display at midnight, adding a dazzling touch to the festivities.

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi extends warm wishes to the Sikh community, acknowledging Guru Nanak Dev as an advocate of love, peace, and brotherhood. Naqvi emphasizes Guru Nanak’s legacy of religious tolerance and interfaith harmony, underscoring his teachings of love, equality, and compassion for humanity.

Over the weekend, Sikh pilgrims participated in religious rituals like Akhand Path, Shabad Kirtan, Ashnan, and Matha Teki at gurdwaras like Janam Asthan and Sacha Sauda. Transported with special police protection, pilgrims joyfully praised Pakistan’s government for well-organized facilities, including accommodation, langar (community kitchen), and transport.
