In a bid to improve accessibility and streamline services, Lahore’s driving license offices have announced an extension of their operating hours. Chief Traffic Officer Mustansar Feroze shared that the decision aims to better accommodate the public and enhance the overall experience of obtaining or renewing driving licenses.
As of now, eight service centers in Lahore will remain open 24 hours a day, providing citizens with increased flexibility to address their licensing needs. The move comes as part of a broader initiative to crack down on underage drivers and individuals operating vehicles without proper licenses.
Feroze revealed that in the past 21 days, over 7,000 cases were registered against violators, leading to the impounding of vehicles. Notably, within a 15-day span, more than 9,355 cases were filed specifically against those driving without licenses, encompassing both driving without a license and riding motorcycles without the requisite documentation.
Emphasizing the importance of compliance, Feroze stated that underage drivers and individuals without licenses would not be eligible for any exemptions. Additionally, those providing vehicles, especially motorcycles, to underage drivers would not receive leniency.
The extension of operating hours at the license offices is a proactive measure to address the growing demand for licensing services. The Traffic Police reported a substantial issuance of new driving permits in November, with 215,000 permits, along with 13,000 license renewals and 17,000 new licenses for Lahore residents.
This move not only aims to enforce traffic regulations but also prioritizes the convenience of the public, ensuring that obtaining or renewing a driving license in Lahore is a smoother and more accessible process for everyone.
