Wedding Photography in Governor House with Prior Permission Amidst Social Media Uproar

In a recent turn of events, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Governor Haji Ghulam Ali faced backlash on social media for allowing wedding video shoots within the premises of the Governor House in Peshawar. However, a late-night clarification from the media in-charge, Maaz Fida, shed light on the longstanding practice of opening the Governor House for wedding photography, provided prior permission obtained.

Prominent journalist Saleem Safi ignited the controversy by sharing a TikTok video featuring a couple in wedding attire at the Governor House, prompting criticism from various quarters. In response, Fida clarified that the Governor House has always been open to the public for wedding photo shoots, emphasizing the need for obtaining prior permission.

Contrary to social media speculation, Fida clarified that the viral video showcased a couple that had formally secured permission for their photoshoot. He also highlighted that Governor Ghulam Ali had abolished the previous fee for such photo shoots, making this opportunity accessible to the public.

Fida explained that a specific section of the Governor House is designate for these photoshoots, and individuals can avail themselves of this facility after obtaining the necessary permissions. This move aligns with the global and local practice of renting out public properties for nominal fees for various events, including photo shoots.

It’s worth noting that such practices are not uncommon, with the former Governor of Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar, approving the rental of the Lahore Governor House estate for commercial activities in March 2020 to cover operational expenditures.

As the social media debate continues, the clarification underscores the Governor House’s commitment to inclusivity, allowing newlyweds and the public alike to capture memorable moments within its historic premises.
