In a significant move towards enhancing travel document security, the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGI&P) has introduced electronic passports (E-passports) for citizens across Pakistan, including Sindh. The E-passport, compliant with United Nations’ ICAO standards, incorporates advanced features for heightened security.
Cutting-Edge Security Features
The newly launched E-passport boasts a highly secure design, featuring an embedded electronic chip on one of the passport pages. This chip stores crucial biometric information about the passport holder, ensuring a foolproof verification process. The chip includes biometrics, personal data from the passport’s data page, a unique identification number, and a digital signature. Notably, the E-passport is equipped with a contactless (NFC) chip, allowing for electronic readability.
Affordable Fee Structure in Sindh
Citizens in Sindh can now obtain the E-passport at reasonable fees, catering to different preferences and needs:
- 36-Page E-Passport (Five-Year Validity): Rs9,000
- 36-Page E-Passport (Ten-Year Validity): Rs13,000
- 72-Page E-Passport (Five-Year Validity): Rs15,000
- 72-Page E-Passport (Ten-Year Validity): Rs24,000
Uniform Fee Structure Across Pakistan
It’s worth noting that the fee structure for E-passports remains consistent across all provinces in Pakistan, ensuring equal access to this advanced travel document.
Streamlined Application Process
Applying for the new E-passport is a streamlined process, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing a hassle-free experience for citizens. The implementation of E-passports aligns with global standards, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to secure and efficient travel documentation.
With the introduction of E-passports in Sindh, citizens can now enjoy the benefits of a highly secure and technologically advanced travel document at affordable rates. The DGI&P’s initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its passport system, promoting secure travel, and aligning with international standards.
