KMDC MBBS Fees Soar 185%: Karachi Medical Students Outraged, Can You Afford It?

In an unprecedented move, passionate medical students took to the streets to protest a staggering 185 percent surge in fees at Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC). The uproar comes in response to a recent notification issued by the college administration, outlining significant increases across various fee categories.

The most notable hike observed in the open merit category, where the admission fee has skyrocketed from Rs 20,000 to a daunting Rs 50,000. Meanwhile, aspiring students opting for self-finance now burdened with a hefty Rs 100,000 admission fee, coupled with an additional Rs 1.2 million in total. The shocking revelation has sent shockwaves through the student community.

Adding fuel to the fire, the KMDC administration disclosed a substantial rise in tuition fees, climbing from Rs 50,000 to an alarming Rs 117,600. Outraged students are calling on Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab to intervene and roll back these exorbitant fee hikes, citing the prevailing financial crisis affecting students nationwide.

City Council member Taimur Ahmed denounced the fee hikes, declaring them an unprecedented act of extortion. Despite recent reductions in petrol prices, students blindsided by an 80 percent increase in transport fees, worsening their financial burden.

In a fervent plea, Ahmed called upon Mayor Karachi to convene a council meeting urgently, demanding transparent answers regarding the rationale behind these development charges disguised as fees. The students united in their cause, determined to fight for affordable education and relief from the unjust financial strain imposed on their academic pursuits.
