In a significant move towards digital transformation, Kuwait has rolled out electronic driving licenses for expatriates with the issuance of Ministerial Resolution No. (410) of 2023. Spearheaded by Sheikh Talal Al Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, this initiative grants expatriates convenient access to a one-year electronic driving license.
The renewal process has streamlined through the Ministry of Interior’s website and the user-friendly “Sahel” government app, eliminating the need for physical copies. Residents can now activate and manage their electronic licenses seamlessly by utilizing the dedicated “Kuwait Mobile ID” section within the app.
An essential feature of this digital transition is the real-time verification of license status using the “Kuwait Mobile ID” app. A green mark signifies validity, while a red mark indicates expiration. It’s important to note that this electronic license system is currently exclusive to expatriates and does not extend to domestic and international truck drivers.
For Kuwaiti residents embarking on international journeys, it advised to utilize licenses from their respective countries during travel, as the electronic system does not cover this category. This move aligns with Kuwait’s overarching digital transformation goals, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce paperwork in licensing processes.
This progressive step not only eases the renewal process for expatriates but also underscores Kuwait’s commitment to embracing technological advancements for a more streamlined and efficient governance system.
