In a groundbreaking move, the Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC), under the leadership of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, has recently announced a substantial revision in fees for its MBBS and BDS programs, exceeding 150%.
The decision, unveiled through a notification by Dr Nargis Anjum, the principal of KMDC, outlines several key changes that set to reshape the financial landscape for aspiring medical and dental students.
Noteworthy Fee Adjustments: A New Chapter for KMDC Students
- Open Merit Admission Fee Soars: The open merit admission fee has witnessed a significant surge, catapulting from Rs20,000 to Rs50,000. This adjustment marks a notable increase, signaling a transformative phase for prospective students.
- Tuition Fee Takes a Leap: The tuition fee for MBBS and BDS programs has elevated from Rs50,000 to Rs117,600, ensuring quality education aligns with necessary financial adjustments.
- Library Fee and Student Activity/Social Fee Increase: The library fee seen an uptick from Rs3,500 to Rs10,000, while the student activity/social fee has raised from Rs8,000 to Rs10,000, enhancing the overall student experience.
- Introduction of New Development Charge: A novel development charge of Rs30,000 has introduced, underscoring the institution’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and facilities.

- Self-Financing Section Witnesses Adjustments: The self-finance section has undergone parallel adjustments, with admission fees rising from Rs20,000 to Rs100,000, tuition fees doubling from Rs600,000 to Rs1.2 million, and library fees increasing from Rs3,500 to Rs10,000.
- Transportation Charges and Further Revisions: Transportation charges surged from Rs20,000 to Rs36,000, while the student activity/social fee has revised from Rs8,000 to Rs10,000, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
- Development, Laboratory, and IT Fees for Self-Finance: Development charges for self-financing seats now set at Rs50,000, accompanied by laboratory and IT fees fixed at Rs10,000 and Rs5,000, respectively.
