Buy iPhone on Installments in Pakistan: Government Initiative Starts from Jan 12!

In a strategic move to support freelancers and enhance financial inclusion, the caretaker government of Pakistan has announced the launch of an iPhone instalment plan set to kick off on January 12, 2024. The initiative, driven by the demand from freelancers, aims to empower them and streamline remittances through the widely-used international gateway, PayPal.

Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology, Umar Saif, revealed the government’s commitment to advancing technology infrastructure by unveiling plans for the introduction of 5G technology in July of the upcoming year. This will be accompanied by an auction of 300 MHz of spectrum, promising a new era of high-speed connectivity for the country.

A notable breakthrough in space-related endeavors has been achieved with the Cabinet’s approval of the National Space Policy. Private sector companies now granted access to leverage low orbit satellites, marking a significant stride in opening up opportunities for private enterprises in space-related ventures.

Addressing the importance of responsible financial behavior, Minister Umar Saif shared details about a collaboration with telecom stakeholders for the launch of a groundbreaking initiative on January 12, 2024. This program enables consumers to acquire the latest iPhone models through convenient instalment plans. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will implement the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking Systems (DIRBS) to block handsets in case of instalment payment failure, ensuring accountability.

Minister Saif emphasized that the overarching goal of this policy is to promote responsible financial behavior while ensuring the continuous expansion of smartphone penetration in the country. Telecom companies positioned to play a pivotal role by providing iPhones and other smartphones directly to consumers through instalment plans, particularly benefiting low-income segments. This move expected to extend the advantages of mobile broadband, fostering inclusive growth in the digital landscape of Pakistan.
