Contrary to rumors suggesting a widespread extension for all classes until January 15, the latest update specifies that the extension applies only to nursery and prep students. Additionally, a ban on school assemblies will be in effect until January 31 in Punjab.
Naqvi emphasized the importance of parents keeping children at home if they exhibit symptoms such as cough, fever, or throat complaints. Dismissing rumors of extending winter holidays for grades 1 to 10 until January 14, he assured that as long as students are appropriately dressed, there should be no concerns.
Despite the decision, social media users have voiced criticism against the reopening of schools and colleges on January 10, 2024, as announced by the Punjab government’s School Education Department.
Weather forecasters predict a prolonged winter this year in Lahore and other cities of the province, with no expected rainfall for the next three days. The cold intensity is anticipated to increase until the sun’s rays reach the ground.
