Can You Vote in Pakistan with an Expired CNIC? 2024 General Election Update

In a recent announcement, Additional Director General Haroon Shinwari addressed the nation’s readiness for the upcoming elections on February 8th, reassuring citizens that the Election Management System (EMS) challenges have been effectively resolved.

Speaking at a media briefing in Islamabad, Shinwari underscored the successful rectification of issues encountered during the EMS trial phase. Notably, individuals with expired ID cards can now seamlessly exercise their voting rights without any obstacles.

Emphasizing inclusivity, Shinwari reiterated that voters with expired IDs would face no impediments, affirming a directive issued to all staff members to ensure their unhindered participation in the electoral process.

To enhance the efficiency of the electoral process, authorities have procured 3,000 laptops for EMS, with 3,600 operators trained to handle them proficiently.

A dedicated control room has been established to oversee the elections, boasting a cutting-edge system operating independently of the internet through a secure private network. Shinwari highlighted the implementation of advanced monitoring mechanisms to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

Furthermore, citizens across the country can conveniently register complaints via email or a universal phone number, streamlining the feedback mechanism and ensuring accountability throughout the electoral proceedings.
