In the recent elections, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate Muhammad Hanif Abbasi emerged victorious in NA-56 Rawalpindi-5 constituency, defeating his opponent Shehryar Riaz backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Abbasi clinched a significant victory with 96,649 votes, surpassing Riaz who managed to secure 82,613 votes.
Competing in a crowded field that included notable figures like Awami Muslim League’s (AML) Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Sumaira Gul, and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) Sajjad Akbar Abbasi, Abbasi’s triumph underscores a strong voter mandate in the area.
This constituency, previously designated as NA-62 Rawalpindi-VI, encompasses various key areas within Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation and Chaklala Cantonment, excluding specific charges.
In the 2018 elections, AML’s Rashid emerged victorious with 117,719 votes, followed by PML-N’s Daniyal Chaudhry. However, this time around, the dynamics have shifted in favor of PML-N.
With a sizable population of 879,357 residents, including 523,733 registered voters, the electoral landscape reflects a diverse and engaged electorate. Notably, the constituency boasts a balanced gender representation, with 272,459 male and 251,274 female voters, highlighting the inclusivity of the democratic process.
