Quetta Gladiators, a prominent name in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), is gearing up for an exciting shift in leadership dynamics as they prepare for the upcoming season. The franchise has officially announced the decision to relieve Sarfaraz Ahmed of his captaincy duties, marking a significant change in strategy for the team.
Owner Nadeem Omer, in conversation with Geo News, confirmed the decision, citing Sarfaraz’s desire to take a break from captaincy. The reins of leadership now poised for a new direction under the guidance of recently appointed head coach Shane Watson. The final decision on Sarfaraz’s successor will made after consultation with the team management, with Rilee Rossouw and Saud Shakeel emerging as strong contenders for the role.
Quetta Gladiators has a storied history under Sarfaraz’s leadership, having reached the finals three times and securing the coveted title in 2019. However, with the winds of change blowing, the franchise is embracing a fresh perspective to navigate the challenges of the upcoming season.
In addition to the leadership shuffle, there’s a buzz of excitement surrounding the return of Shane Watson to the Gladiators camp, this time in a coaching capacity. Nadeem Omer expressed his delight at Watson’s homecoming and expressed a desire to bring Kevin Pietersen on board in some capacity, further strengthening the Quetta Gladiators family.
The team has top players like Rilee Rossouw, Mohammad Wasim, and Jason Roy, ensuring an exciting PSL 9. Matches will be in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi, with the final at National Bank Stadium in Karachi on March 18.
PSL 9 will have matches in two legs at different stadiums. It starts at Multan Cricket Stadium and Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, then moves to Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium and Karachi’s National Bank Stadium. The playoffs will all be in Karachi, adding to the excitement.
