Urgent Appeal for Child Immunization as Pneumonia Deaths Soar in Punjab

In response to a concerning surge in child fatalities from pneumonia, the Punjab health department is urgently calling on parents to prioritize completing their children’s immunization courses. The devastating death toll has reached a staggering 405 children this year alone, prompting a critical need for preventive measures.

Immunization stands out as a crucial and effective strategy against pneumonia and various infectious diseases, offering vital protection for vulnerable children. The alarming situation is marked by a recent spike, with 13 more children succumbing to pneumonia in just one day.

In the past 24 hours alone, 304 children have been diagnosed with pneumonia in Punjab, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention and support. Throughout the year, over 29,000 cases of pneumonia have been reported in the province, with Lahore witnessing 114 children being hospitalized in a single day.

The Punjab health department’s appeal comes as a crucial step to address the alarming situation and prevent further tragedies.
