Karachi woke up to a drizzle on Friday morning, following the city administration’s warning to residents about anticipated heavy rainfall. The rain touched various parts of the city, including I. I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Sarjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, Korangi Industrial Area, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, and Manghopir Northern Bypass.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab took to social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, to assure residents about the city’s preparedness. He mentioned the deployment of 53 suction vehicles across different locations to manage rainwater. Traffic wardens, in addition to traffic police, have been stationed on major roads to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
In light of the heavy rain forecast, the Sindh government declared a rain emergency on Thursday. It was decided that offices in Karachi would operate for half a day to ensure the safety of the citizens. The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department also announced the closure of all private and public evening shift schools.
Chief Meteorologist of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Sardar Sarfraz, predicted heavy rainfall in Gadap, Sarjani, and Malir. He also reported light rain in some areas of Karachi and Gwadar. The current spell of rain across Pakistan is expected to last until March 3, with a possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in the upper regions in the next two days. Fishermen in Balochistan have been advised to avoid venturing into the deep sea until the evening.
