A formidable series of rainstorms is set to sweep across Balochistan today, with meteorologists predicting rainfall in no less than 22 districts of the region. The weather shift doesn’t stop there – the high-altitude areas of Ziarat, Quetta, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah are bracing for a potential snowfall.
Earlier this week, Dalbandin, a locality in Balochistan, bore the brunt of heavy rainfall that wreaked havoc across the area. The downpour led to flooding, rendering the national highway impassable and stranding numerous vehicles.
The floodwaters showed no mercy, invading residential areas and leading to the unfortunate collapse of several mud houses. The residents faced a double whammy as the deluge also disrupted the Quetta-Taftan train service due to waterlogging on the railway tracks.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for today, forecasting rain and possible snowfall on the mountains in Upper Sindh, Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and the neighboring hilly regions.
As the weather takes a dramatic turn, the residents are urged to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts. The unfolding weather scenario underscores the need for robust infrastructure and effective disaster management strategies to mitigate the impact of such natural calamities.
