Every year, the last ten days of Ramadan witness a unique spiritual retreat known as Aitkaf. Muslims worldwide, including Pakistan, participate in this practice, seeking solitude in mosques until the moon sighting for Eid ul Fitr.
Many choose their local mosques for Aitkaf, dedicating these days solely to prayer. However, observing Aitkaf at renowned mosques like the Faisal Mosque, nestled in the Margalla Hills’ heart, holds a special charm for Pakistanis. The mosque’s picturesque view of the capital adds to the spiritual experience.
In 2024, the Faisal Mosque, a contemporary architectural marvel, will welcome at least 300 Aitkaf observers. The mosque administration has announced a ‘first come first serve’ policy for allotting slots to applicants.
Itikaf in Faisal Mosque 2024 Registration Date and Fees
The deadline for submitting applications this year is the 10th of Ramadan. Aspirants can collect application forms from the Islamic Centre. Along with the form, a fee of Rs5,000 is to be paid via bank draft. Applicants also need to provide a copy of their national identity card and two passport-sized photos. The age limit for Aitkaf observers has been capped at 60 years.
Registrants are required to reach the Faisal Mosque before Iftar on the 20th day of Ramadan. It’s worth noting that Aitkaf observers are responsible for their Sehri and Iftar arrangements. The mosque administration provides participants with books and copies of the Quran, and organizes lectures for those observing Aitkaf.
