- Govt’s decision to introduce Kisan Card program in Sindh across the province
- Focus on providing priority benefits to farmers during natural disasters
- Approval of expenditures for People’s Bus Service
In a pivotal move aimed at bolstering agricultural support in Sindh, the provincial cabinet has given the green light to launch the Kisan Card program. This initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, seeks to provide crucial assistance and benefits to farmers across the region.
Under the newly approved Kisan Card program, farmers will receive priority benefits during wheat procurement processes. Additionally, in times of natural disasters or agricultural crises, affected farmers will be able to access vital support through the Kisan Card system.
During the cabinet meeting, other significant discussions included the approval of expenditures totaling 521 million rupees for the People’s Bus Service. This service, initiated in October 2021, aims to enhance public transportation accessibility and convenience across Sindh.
Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon highlighted the current operational status of the People’s Bus Service, with 230 buses already in service and plans to acquire an additional 40 buses in the near future. The substantial subsidy provided by the government from April 2023 to February 2024, amounting to 968 million rupees, underscores the commitment to improving public transport infrastructure and services in the province.
The Kisan Card program’s introduction aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and ensure the welfare of farmers in Sindh. This proactive step reflects the government’s dedication to addressing key challenges facing the agricultural sector and fostering economic development across rural communities.
