- Punjab government to provide 20,000 e-bikes to students in easy installments
- Students can acquire a bike with a down payment of Rs25,000
- The distribution of bikes is set to commence in May 2024
In a significant move towards promoting accessibility and easing the burden of transportation costs on students, the Punjab government has unveiled its much-anticipated Bike Scheme 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, designed to provide 20,000 e-bikes to students across the region, focusing on affordability and convenience.
The scheme’s payment structure is straightforward and student-friendly, requiring a down payment of Rs25,000 and ensuring that monthly installments remain below Rs5,000. This approach not only addresses the challenges posed by escalating fuel and bike prices but also empowers students with a reliable means of daily commute.
Partnering with the Bank of Punjab, the government plans to roll out the distribution process through a draw scheduled for May 2024. Additionally, a separate scheme is in the works to cater specifically to high-achieving students, further enhancing accessibility and inclusivity.
This initiative, influenced by a request from former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to increase bike availability and affordability, reflects a commitment to prioritizing the welfare and empowerment of Punjab’s youth. By offering practical solutions and easing financial burdens, the Punjab government’s Bike Scheme 2024 embodies a progressive approach towards fostering education and opportunity among students.
