In a move to enhance passenger safety, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has initiated a month-long maintenance operation at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. The main runway will be temporarily closed to clear accumulated rubber debris from aircraft tires, ensuring a safer and smoother journey for travelers.
The maintenance work, which began on April 4 and will continue until May 3, is scheduled during specific hours on weekdays, from Monday to Friday. This strategic decision allows the CAA to address safety issues while minimizing disruption to flight schedules.
The runway closure schedule is as follows:
- Mondays: 9 am to 11:30 am
- Tuesdays: 8 am to 12:30 pm
- Wednesdays: 9 am to 12:30 pm
- Thursdays: 7:30 am to 10 am
- Fridays: 9 am to 11:30 am
Weekends will be free from maintenance activities, with no work planned on Saturdays and Sundays.
Despite the temporary closure of the main runway, flight operations will continue as usual. Flights will be redirected to the secondary runway, ensuring uninterrupted travel schedules for passengers. This move underscores the CAA’s commitment to passenger safety and operational efficiency.
