The Punjab Government is all set to expand Lahore’s metro train network with the introduction of the Blue and Purple Line Metro Train services, representing a significant investment in the region’s transportation infrastructure.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has submitted proposals for both the Blue and Purple Line Train Projects to the Punjab government for approval. The projects, estimated to cost Rs14.5 trillion, mark a substantial portion of the province’s budget allocation.
The Purple Line Metro Train project, with an estimated cost of approximately 577 billion rupees, designed to cover a 16-kilometer route between the airport and Bhati Chowk, featuring about 16 stations. This line expected to serve around 250,000 commuters daily, providing efficient connectivity in the city.
Meanwhile, the Blue Line Train Project, with an estimated cost of around 872 billion rupees, will span 27 kilometers from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Interchange, connecting 28 stations along the way. This extensive route aims to accommodate the daily commute of approximately 400,000 citizens, enhancing accessibility and easing congestion on key routes.
The formulation of PC-1 for these mega projects will commence upon the Punjab government’s endorsement, signaling a significant step forward in enhancing Lahore’s public transportation infrastructure. The projects have presented comprehensively to Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, and her Cabinet, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernizing and improving the city’s transport systems for the benefit of its residents.
