In response to the ongoing monsoon rainfall, Karachi’s Mayor has announced a state of rain emergency across the city. This declaration comes as a proactive measure to mitigate potential flood risks and ensure public safety during the inclement weather conditions.
Engineer Asadullah, the Chief Operating Officer of Water Corporation, confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed to manage the rainfall effectively. With 55 suction machines at their disposal, the Water Corporation is geared up to address waterlogging issues in critical areas.
As part of the emergency response plan, suction machines will be strategically deployed on major roads and in low-lying areas tonight. Additionally, the Executive Engineer Workshop Division and relevant personnel will oversee vehicle operations to streamline the drainage process.
Engineer Asadullah emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens not to tamper with manhole covers during heavy rain. He clarified that sewerage manholes are not designed for rainwater drainage and cautioned against any interference that could exacerbate flooding concerns.
Highlighting the heightened operational readiness, Engineer Asadullah noted that Water Corporation’s entire workforce, especially the sewerage department, is on high alert. Leaves for engineering and operational staff have been canceled to ensure round-the-clock service delivery.
This rain emergency declaration underscores the city’s proactive approach to safeguarding residents and infrastructure during adverse weather conditions, reflecting a concerted effort to enhance Karachi’s resilience against monsoon challenges.
