In a groundbreaking move, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training is set to revolutionize transportation for female students and educators in Islamabad Capital Territory Schools.
The initiative, aimed at addressing the transportation woes of women in education, involves the deployment of approximately 20 buses from federal educational institutions. These buses, distinctively painted pink, will be operated in both urban and rural areas of the federal capital.
The service, which is free for female students and teachers from both public and private educational institutions, is expected to significantly reduce the dropout rate among girls, a problem that has been exacerbated by inadequate transport facilities.
The Secretary of Education, in a recent interaction with the media, revealed that an internal audit found that nearly a third of the total 385 buses of federal educational institutions were parked and unused due to budget constraints, lack of drivers, and delayed repairs.
This initiative not only puts these idle resources to use but also opens up the possibility for women in general to avail of this service, subject to space availability.
The Ministry aims to have these buses operational and serving female students and teachers by June 15, marking a significant step towards gender equality and educational accessibility in the region.
