In a recent turn of events, the Naan Bai Association, representing the interests of local roti makers, has withdrawn their planned strike. The decision came after successful discussions with the district administration.
The Association’s President, Aftab Gul, confirmed that the majority of their demands were addressed, leading to the cancellation of the strike. The primary concerns revolved around the provision of subsidized flour and the adjustment of naan and roti prices in line with market rates.
Earlier, the Association had declared a province-wide strike in Punjab, starting Wednesday. They expressed their dissatisfaction with what they termed as ‘unfair’ pricing set by the relevant authorities. The strike would have seen all tandoors across the province remaining closed from Wednesday.
The Association had been vocal about their demand for revised pricing, following the Punjab government’s directive to fix the price of roti at Rs 16. Prior to the negotiations, the Association had given a 96-hour ultimatum, calling for a decrease in flour prices.
This development brings relief to the residents of Punjab, who had been bracing for a potential disruption in their daily bread supply. The successful negotiations highlight the importance of dialogue in resolving conflicts and meeting the demands of different stakeholders in a balanced manner.
