Karachi Water Supply Suspended: 3-Day Shortage Announced by KWSB (May 16-19)

Karachi water supply is set to experience a brief interruption. The city’s primary water authority, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), has forewarned about a possible water supply deficit in the imminent days.

The KWSB spokesperson has indicated that the city’s water supply could be affected from May 16 to May 19 due to ongoing infrastructural enhancements. The New Pump House Gharo, a vital cog in Karachi’s water supply chain, will be temporarily non-operational during this period. This pause in operations is a consequence of the collaborative development initiatives of K-Electric and KWSB.

Inhabitants of Karachi are encouraged to brace for this short-term disruption by ensuring adequate water storage in their homes. The city, which is already navigating through water supply challenges, is projected to receive around 13 million gallons less water per day during this period.

The cause behind this temporary disruption is the installation of new electrical equipment and panels at the Gharo pumping station. This work, which is slated to span over three days, is part of an endeavor to bolster the efficiency of Karachi’s water supply system.

While this infrastructural work may induce a brief inconvenience, it is a necessary stride toward securing a more dependable water supply for Karachi in the long term. Stay prepared, stay hydrated, Karachi!
