Sindh, including its bustling cities of Karachi and Hyderabad, is preparing for an imminent heatwave. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts a significant rise in day temperatures from May 21 to May 23, with an increase of 04 to 06°C above the usual.
The heatwave is expected to escalate into severe conditions from May 23 to May 27, with temperatures soaring 06 to 08°C above the norm. This weather pattern is attributed to a shallow westerly wave currently over the upper regions of Pakistan, which is likely to persist for the next 24 hours.
Residents of Karachi, Hyderabad, and most Sindh districts should brace for hot and dry conditions on Sunday evening through Tuesday. Afternoon gusty winds and windstorms are also anticipated.
Karachi’s maximum temperatures are predicted to hover between 37-39°C on Monday and escalate to 38-40°C on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hyderabad is set to experience even higher temperatures, ranging from 44-46°C on Monday and 45-47°C on Tuesday.
In the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather has prevailed in Karachi, Hyderabad, and most districts of the province. Nawabshah recorded the highest temperature in the province at 49°C, with a morning relative humidity of 44%.
Karachi and Hyderabad also experienced high temperatures, recording 40°C and 45°C respectively. Morning relative humidity was noted at 68% in Karachi and 34% in Hyderabad.
