Pakistan Railways has announced substantial reductions in train fares across various travel classes, effective immediately. This fare adjustment spans journeys from 1 kilometre to 200 kilometres, aiming to provide relief to passengers amidst recent drops in petrol and diesel prices.
Train Ticket Price Reduced in Pakistan
According to official notifications, Pakistan Railways has cut economy class fares by up to 54% and air-conditioned class fares by 40% on selected routes. For example, on the Lahore to Rawalpindi route, the minimum fare for economy class has been slashed from Rs 250 to Rs 100. Similarly, fares for the Khyber Mail in economy class have also been reduced to Rs 100 from Rs 250.
These revisions reflect a proactive response to easing inflationary pressures on the public. They align with recent government initiatives to lower fuel costs, including a Rs 7.88 reduction in diesel prices, now standing at Rs 274.08 per litre, and a decrease in high-speed diesel to Rs 274.8 per litre.
Pakistan Railways’ immediate implementation of these new fares demonstrates a commitment to affordability and accessibility in public transportation, providing tangible benefits to commuters across the country.
