In a move that echoes the recent price cut of roti, Punjab has witnessed a substantial reduction in bread prices, offering respite to families across the region. The cost of bread has seen a decrease ranging from Rs50 to Rs70, effective immediately as per the latest official announcement.
Specifically, in Lahore, a 750-gram loaf of bread that previously cost Rs230 is now priced at Rs180. For smaller bread sizes, up to 400 grams, the price cap has been set at Rs95 by the Lahore deputy commissioner.
The authorities have committed to the swift implementation of these new prices to ensure consumers benefit from the reductions at the earliest.
Adding to the wave of price cuts, on May 23, Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz shared the updated roti price on Twitter, which has been further lowered to Rs14, marking another step by the Punjab government to make roti more affordable.
The revised roti rate of Rs14 is now in effect in various districts, including Lahore, while a slightly lower price of Rs12 has been established in Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar.
Contrastingly, the naanbais in Multan have not adhered to the new pricing, continuing to sell roti at the previous rate of Rs20 and naan at Rs25. This defiance has prompted citizens to urge the government to enforce the price regulation and extend the cost benefits to the populace.
The recent price reductions, including the significant drop in bread prices after roti, are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the financial burden on households in Punjab.
