In a recent meeting at Punjab House Murree, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif took a significant step towards preserving the historical essence of Murree. The duo decided to restore the ancient buildings of Murree to their original state, thereby enhancing the town’s historical charm.
Major Upgardes in Murree Include:
Smart Tram on Murree Streets
The meeting also saw the proposal of a ‘Murree Street’, inspired by the world’s finest street models. A ‘Smart Tram’ set to run on this street, with a comprehensive plan for its operation to submitted within a fortnight.
Multi Level Parking Plaza
A multi-level Parking Plaza, capable of accommodating over 1500 vehicles, is also on the cards. Tourists will be able to explore Murree via the latest tram from this plaza. To streamline traffic, digital counting cameras will installed on Murree’s entry routes within 15 days. The Murree Traffic Management Plan received approval, and the Murree Cable Car Service will undergo repair and rehabilitation to obtain a fitness certificate.
Amenities for Tourists
The meeting also addressed the need for quality amenities for tourists. The Chief Minister directed the swift completion of the Samli TB Sanatorium’s upgrade project. She also ordered the construction of top-notch toilets at various Motorway sites, including Mall Road, with specific facilities for differently-abled individuals and children’s rest areas. A wheelchair center for the differently-abled and elderly also planned for Mall Road.
Entertainment Parks and Water Supply Projects
The participants reviewed the proposal to establish an ‘Entertainment Park and Clipping Pod Village’. They were informed that over 90% of the construction and extension of Murree’s 12 roads have completed. A water supply scheme is in the pipeline to provide clean water in Murree and its surrounding areas from the existing system and River Jhelum.
Historic Buildings Safety
The meeting concluded with a stern message from CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, “The anti-encroachment campaign will continue, and no compromise will made in this regard.” President PML-N Muhammad Nawaz Sharif echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to amend laws that delay public welfare and calling for accountability for those damaging national assets.
