Islamabad’s new electric buses are now officially operational for public use. After a successful trial run, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad has confirmed that these eco-friendly buses are ready to serve the city’s residents.
These electric buses, distinguishable by their light blue color, began their journey on feeder route number four, connecting PIMS Hospital to Quaid-e-Azam University. They will now run every 10 minutes, providing a reliable and green commuting option for everyone. The route includes key stops such as Radio Colony, Satara Market, Melody, Aabpara, NADRA Chowk, and Serena Hotel.
Initially, during the trial period, passengers were not permitted to board the buses. However, as of today, the service is fully operational, with the first few days being fare-free. From July 1st, passengers will pay a nominal fare of Rs.50.
The operational service also extends to another feeder route, which caters to the university area. This route connects Karachi Company, G-10, and G-11 Markazs, and terminates at NUST University. This initiative has been eagerly welcomed by students, senior citizens, and women, who can now enjoy a convenient and environmentally friendly way to travel to schools, colleges, and workplaces.
In addition to this new electric service, Islamabad already operates the Green Line and Blue Line bus services, managed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). These services run from PIMS Hospital, with the Green Line stretching to various parts of the city and the Blue Line extending to Gulberg. Islamabad’s transportation network includes 14 feeder routes, four of which are currently operational, with plans to activate the remaining routes in stages.
