Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has approved a fare increase for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system by 5 to 10 rupees. He also approved extending the BRT route from Peshawar to Nowshera.
During a meeting led by the Chief Minister, the Urban Mobility Authority board approved the fare hike. Official sources state that one rupee from each fare will be used to cover expenses. The BRT service will now run from Chamkani in Peshawar to Pabbi in Nowshera, with the ring road route from Chamkani to Hayatabad also declared a BRT route.
The Chief Minister has also directed the introduction of electric buses in urban areas of divisional headquarters. Children up to the age of five will travel for free on BRT buses.
Ali Amin Gandapur stressed the importance of turning plans into reality and instructed the preparation of a strategy to complete the construction of BRT plazas.
