On the 8th of Muharram, processions are taking place across Pakistan in various cities, marking this important occasion. These central processions follow their traditional routes, accompanied by mourning assemblies and lamentation recitals held at numerous locations.
8th Muharram Juloos Karachi
In Karachi, the procession has begun at Nishtar Park, where authorities have implemented security measures, including blocking off surrounding areas with containers and deploying police and Rangers personnel along the route. A command and control room is actively monitoring the event with CCTV cameras. To manage traffic during the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram, an alternative traffic plan has been established. The main procession will conclude at Husainiya Iranian in Kharadar, and no vehicles will be permitted past Gurumandir Chowk along the procession route.
8th Muharram Juloos Lahore
Lahore’s central procession commenced from Imambargah Darbar-e-Hussain, following traditional paths and ending at Imambargah Bait-ul-Raza. Meanwhile, in Peshawar, over 140 CCTV cameras have been installed for security, with more than 14,000 police personnel ensuring safety. Authorities have classified 19 Imambargahs as highly sensitive and will employ drone cameras to monitor the processions.
8th Muharram Juloos Islamabad
In Islamabad, the procession started from Sector G-9/4, Jamia Al-Murtaza, and citizens are advised to use alternative routes to avoid congestion. Those traveling to Tarnol Motorway should take the Srinagar Highway, while others heading to Bahara Kahu and Murree are directed to use the Expressway.

In Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered arrangements for food and refreshments during Muharram. Live camera feeds from across the province will connect to the central control room for enhanced security monitoring.

In Hyderabad, mourning assemblies are also taking place, with over 4,000 police and Rangers deployed for security. Authorities are on high alert to ensure the safety of all participants during these significant observances.
