National Stadium Karachi started upgrading in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The prestigious tournament set to take place in February 2025, drawing cricket fans’ attention worldwide.
The current work involves demolishing sections of the stadium, specifically from the Naseem-ul-Ghani Enclosure to the Iqbal Qasim Enclosure, using heavy machinery. The old manual scoreboard tower is also being dismantled. The new design for the stadium will feature modern media boxes, dedicated seating for broadcasters, and a new space for commentators. Additionally, hospitality boxes and a media gallery will be constructed.
Later this month, the stadium will host a Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Construction will temporarily halt during match hours and resume once the day’s play concludes.
Pakistan is gearing up to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. The event will see top cricketing nations like Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Australia, England, Afghanistan, and South Africa competing.
In related news, reports indicate that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a budget of approximately $70 million for Pakistan to organize the tournament. This approval came from the ICC’s financial and commercial committee, chaired by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
With these preparations, Pakistan is set to showcase its cricketing infrastructure on a global stage, further cementing its position in the world of cricket.
