Mobile service on Chehlum 2024 shut down across Karachi since last Sunday night, affecting users of Ufone, Telenor, and Mobilink. This disruption followed the Sindh government’s recommendation to suspend services due to security concerns surrounding the Chehlum of Imam Hussain (AS).
The Sindh Home Department issued a letter to the Federal Ministry of Interior, urging the suspension of mobile services in various cities, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur, and Khairpur. The request stemmed from concerns raised by the Sindh Police, highlighting the need for preventive measures during the significant religious observance.
In response, mobile networks in Karachi started to experience disruptions late at night, as services were gradually suspended in line with the government’s directive. The suspension aims to enhance security and maintain peace during the Chehlum processions, with similar measures expected in other major cities across Sindh.
