Lahore-Islamabad Motorway Toll Tax Increased: New Rates Effective from August 25

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced a 10% increase in toll tax rates for the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2), effective from Monday, August 25, 2024. This annual increase, in line with the contract agreement signed with M/s Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), is part of a planned escalation in toll rates.

New Toll Rates for Lahore-Islamabad Motorway

With the latest increase, the toll for a standard vehicle traveling from Lahore to Islamabad has risen to Rs 1210, up from the previous Rs 1100. The hike is even more substantial for commercial vehicles:

  • Vans: Rs 2030
  • Coasters: Rs 2840 (previously Rs 2240)
  • Buses: Rs 4060
  • Trucks: Rs 5280
  • Trailers: Rs 6780

These new toll rates apply across all interchanges on the M2 Motorway, affecting a large number of daily commuters, including travelers, traders, and transporters.

Annual Toll Rate Increase

The toll tax increase is part of a contractual agreement between NHA and M/s Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited, signed on April 23, 2014. According to the agreement, toll rates on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway will increase by 10% annually for 20 years. This arrangement designed to generate additional revenue for the NHA and FWO, though the authorities have not provided specific justifications for this year’s increase.

Impact on Commuters

The increase in toll rates expected to impact thousands of commuters who use the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway daily. From regular travelers to commercial transporters, the higher tolls will likely add to the overall cost of transportation, potentially affecting the prices of goods and services transported via this route.

For more details on the new toll rates or to calculate your journey costs, commuters encouraged to check the latest updates on the official NHA website or the Motorway Authority’s toll information service.
