The Punjab government has taken a significant step by establishing a working group to develop the much-anticipated Glass Train project, set to run between Rawalpindi and Bhurban in Murree. The train route, stretching 65 kilometers, will start from Rawalpindi’s Saddar area, pass through scenic spots like the Margalla Hills and Barakahu, and end at Bhurban in Murree. This project is part of a broader development plan aimed at enhancing Murree’s infrastructure.

The National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) is conducting a feasibility study to assess the project’s viability. The project received official approval from Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, on June 29, 2024. Immediately after approval, the Transport Department tasked with preparing the study and estimating the costs involved.

The working group tasked with identifying challenges such as land acquisition for the tracks and stations, and ensuring the project is cost-effective and efficiently executed. As the PC-1 progresses, more stations may added to the route. NESCOM’s study will outline the timeline and total cost once the planning finalized.
