The Government of Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has significantly expanded its “CM Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi” project. This initiative, which initially began in Lahore, now offers free Wi-Fi services to additional cities across the province, furthering the goal of creating a digital-friendly environment.

Cities Offering Free Wi-Fi Service

The free Wi-Fi service is now available in the following cities in Punjab:

  1. Lahore: The provincial capital boasts 200 locations where citizens can enjoy uninterrupted free internet service.
  2. Kasur: Free Wi-Fi is accessible at 10 points throughout the city, benefiting residents and visitors alike.
  3. Sheikhupura: In this city, the service is available at 15 locations, supporting digital connectivity for both education and business activities.
  4. Nankana Sahib: Recently, 5 free Wi-Fi points have been established in Nankana Sahib, enhancing the city’s digital infrastructure.

Usage Statistics

Since its expansion on June 16, the project has witnessed massive success. Over the past three months, approximately 7.7 million users across the province have accessed 111 TB of data, with an impressive 98.7% service availability. This usage highlights the growing reliance on digital connectivity for daily activities.

A spokesperson from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority emphasized the importance of the free Wi-Fi service in promoting education, business, and social engagement. The spokesperson remarked, “We are transforming Punjab into a digital province, and the free Wi-Fi service is an important step in this direction. Citizens are utilizing the free Wi-Fi service to ease their daily lives.”

The project reflects the government’s commitment to improving digital access, making it easier for residents to stay connected, whether for education, business, or social purposes.
