Indian political leader Raj Thackeray has raised objections to the release of the Pakistani blockbuster The Legend of Maula Jatt in Maharashtra, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan. This would be the first Pakistani film to hit Indian screens after the ban on Pakistani artists was lifted.
Earlier reports suggested that the film might only released in Mumbai. However, Thackeray voiced strong opposition, saying that not only should it blocked in Maharashtra, but it shouldn’t allowed to released in any state across India.
He acknowledged that art typically crosses borders, but made it clear that this exception does not apply when it comes to Pakistan. Thackeray went further to urge the Indian government to prevent the film’s screening nationwide, not just in Maharashtra.
The Legend of Maula Jatt, a major hit in Pakistan scheduled to release in India on October 2. However, these latest threats may put its release in jeopardy.
