Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has openly criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him the face of extremist Hindus. Tessori, during a special convocation at the Governor House in Karachi, raised questions about the people of India, wondering how they could be good when they’ve elected Modi for the third time.
The event was held to honor Dr. Zakir Naik with an honorary degree, and Tessori didn’t hold back while addressing the gathering. He made a comparison between names, stating that no Muslim would ever name their child after Yazid, a historical figure tied to negativity, while names like Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain are deeply respected. This analogy was used to stress the importance of good character in leadership.
Governor Tessori also shared a light moment about Dr. Zakir Naik’s mention of PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) during his speech. In a humorous tone, he said, “You’ve come to Pakistan for Islam, so let’s forget about the 500 kilos of luggage you left behind.” He encouraged Dr. Naik to focus on spreading the message of Islam and overlook minor inconveniences.
Tessori didn’t stop there. He expressed his personal feelings, saying he stood at the gates of the Governor House himself to welcome Dr. Naik and his guests, showing the level of respect Pakistan has for him. Tessori, who comes from a migrant family, reflected on how his ancestors left behind their wealth, and homes, and lives in India for the sake of Pakistan, a country founded in the name of Islam, and that his family has no regrets over their decision.
Ending his speech, Tessori apologized if any Pakistani felt offended during the event, wrapping up the occasion with a mix of light-heartedness and deep emotion.
