Rawalpindi’s traffic plans for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit have been rolled out, and they’re bringing some major changes to the city’s usual flow. According to the traffic police, there are going to be road closures at five main spots to tighten up security. The key locations include Koral Chowk, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Airport Road, Chohan Chowk, and Fauji Tower Chowk, which will be off-limits for vehicles from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s part of the strategy to keep things under control, and heavy traffic won’t be allowed into the city during these hours.
While the restrictions may cause some hassle, officials have pointed out that it’s not all shutdown. Main roads like Tipu Road, Murree Road, Stadium Road, and Saidpur Road will still be open, keeping some flow of traffic in place to prevent a complete gridlock. Commuters can also breathe a little easier knowing that Kachehri Chowk and Scheme Three Road won’t be affected by the closures and will remain open as usual.
Authorities are stressing that these steps are all about ensuring smooth traffic management and making sure the summit goes off without a hitch. The main idea is to maintain a secure atmosphere while still allowing vehicles to move around the city. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, use alternative routes, and follow the guidance of traffic staff to avoid any headaches during the restricted hours.
