Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) has called for a massive protest across the country on Friday, raising concerns about the proposed constitutional amendment package. The party sees this move as an unfair step aimed at sidelining its founder, Imran Khan, who is currently in jail.
PTI’s leadership has directed all regional and local chapters to gear up for energetic but peaceful protests right after Friday prayers. The rallies are set to take place at district headquarters, making it clear that the party is fully united in rejecting any effort by the government to tweak the Constitution. According to a PTI statement, the protests are meant to make every possible effort to block this amendment package from getting through the two houses of parliament.
The party’s political committee is also standing firm on demanding the release of various figures associated with PTI. This includes Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khanum and Uzma Khanum, as well as advocate Intizar Hussain Panjotha, Azam Swati, and other leaders, workers, and members of parliament who have been detained, including the president of PTI Balochistan.
The statement emphasized that the proposed changes to the Constitution are not acceptable to PTI. The party is pushing back strongly, insisting that the government’s attempt to distort the Constitution will be opposed with all their strength in both houses of parliament. The demand for Imran Khan’s release remains at the forefront of their agenda.
This protest call by PTI comes at a time when the political climate is already tense, and the proposed amendment has stirred up further controversy. With PTI mobilizing its supporters for a nationwide demonstration, all eyes will be on Friday to see how the situation unfolds.
